Highlights of Berlin

On this exciting tour, you will experience the eventful history of Berlin with all its cracks and edges close-up and pass all of important new and historic buildings and sights in the centre of Berlin. Your guide will also share personal stories about historical events, such as life on either side of the Wall and its eventual fall in 1989.

The route will take you from the world famous Brandenburg Gate through the new government district with the imposing Reichstag building and the Federal Chancellery, past the Soviet War Memorial to the nation’s Holocaust Memorial. From there, we will head to the site of Hitler’s bunker and then on to Potsdamer Platz with its modern buildings designed by internationally renowned architects. You will be particularly amazed by the spectacular roof design of the Sony Center. We then ride along the former no-man’s land between the two sides of the Wall passing the spy museum berlin to a surviving East German watchtower and then on to a longer stretch of Wall still standing. We will take a quick break at the very interesting open-air exhibition "Topography of Terror"  and then pass by the Berlin High Flyer, the Trabi Museum and the Asisi Panorama before heading over to infamous Checkpoint Charlie. Here you will learn much about the eventful and turbulent history of this former border crossing and its surrounding neighbourhood.

From there, we will ride along Friedrichstraße, one of the most famous streets of Berlin, to the Gendarmenmarkt, a beautifully symmetrical square from the late 18th century. From here, we will then head over to equally harmonious Bebelplatz, a beauty unfortunately marred by being the sight of the first Nazi book burning in 1933, an event marked by an intriguing underground memorial: 'The Empty Library' by Israeli Artist Micha Ullmann.

We then head past historic buildings such as the State Opera House, the former Royal Guardhouse and the former Royal Armoury to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Museum Island with the world famous museums: Pergamon Museum, Bode Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Altes Museum and the imposing Berlin Cathedral as well as the recently restored Berlin City Palace (Humboldt Forum), where we take a look at the beautiful Schlüter courtyard of the new Berlin Palace . We then head back down Unter den Linden past many other historic buildings (Humboldt University, Berlin State Library, Embassy of Russia, Hotel Adlon) back to Pariser Platz and Brandenburg Gate.

On this exciting guided bike tour we have enough time for photo stops and to take some breather.
